BACK ON THE STREET

Dear Friends:  You are on this list because I thought you might:
  • Pray for us and for the people that God wants to reach in the streets
  • Be interested
  • Contribute to our cause if/when needed
  • Pass this on to someone you know might need to read it.

This is a blurb from my website - www.lorlas.com/page9.html
This is a outreach that I've been involved with (under the leadership of Donna McCauley) for several years now.  The outreach, under the official umbrella of "Abide Ministries", is primarily for addicts and prostitutes on the streets in Detroit.  We offer lunch, hygeine products, hope and prayer to the people that we meet.  We served in the Brightmoor area for many years and saw a remarkable transformation in the people out there.  God was on the move in that area.  Though a couple of the girls we knew were killed, many of them went through rehab and got off the streets.

As we begin the outreach, again, in a new neighborhood in the city, I'm asking for your help.  If you are so inclined to pray for us and for the people that God wants to reach out there, we'd LOVE that!

I've only been out once so far (in this new neighborhood) so let me see if I can remember where it is.  We went down Woodward to McNichols to Fenkell and around that area by Wyoming and back.  (I'll have a better idea of the area next Tues.)  We saw so many girls. It was different than Brightmoor.  Hard to explain.  The girls in Brightmoor were desparate, these girls seem more deliberate.  Posing on the corners.  Maybe it's because we knew the girls in Brightmoor.  (I'm sure these girls are desparate too.)  Another thing I noticed was how dark and dirty this area is.  Many strip clubs, sex clubs, dark alleys, few lighted buildings.  And, ironically (and sadly) many churches in these few blockes.  Mostly abandoned.

The 70x7 group goes out in this area every Tues night and I go out with the group 2 Tues. a month.  On Thurs they go out to a neighborhood in Mt. Clemens that really needs help.

Anyway, long introduction......
We send out emails to update you on the evenings events and I've got to tell you that it's powerful what God is doing out there.  The email below is from the night that I first went out in this area.  I want to bless you with these updates.... but I want to be a blessing and not a bother.  Please let me know ASAP if you would NOT like to be on this list.  I will remove you immediately without hesitation or judgement.  Please be advised that I keep the addresses in the "blind copy" list so that your email is not shown to everyone.  Otherwise, you will receive  an email update from me - about 70x7 weekly.

If you are moved to help us, the following is a list of things that we could use:
  • Travel Size - Shampoo
  • Travel Size - Conditioner
  • Travel Size - Body Lotion
  • Travel Size - Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush
  • Razors
  • Shaving Cream
  • Deodorant
  • Feminine Products (prefer pads over tampons)
  • Grocery Gift Cards (to purchase items for sandwiches)
  • Juice Boxes
  • Check donation to Abide Ministries with "70x7" in the memo line.
Maybe you could ask your work associates and friends to collect these things for us.

Thank you for prayfully considering helping us in anyway you can.
God bless,
Lauren Beras

The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap
destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will
reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper
time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have
opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to
the family of believers.Gal. 6:8-10

Harvest, we see the potential harvest on almost every street corner.  We
pray for eyes to see the hope that lies beneath the surface of a sinful
nature and pray we may be used to reach the lost so that they also may
belong to the family of believers.

The Lord has led us to this new neighborhood (new for us) for tonight we
caught a glimpse of how busy we will be.  Women walking, women strutting,
women sitting in doorways, women just standing on street corners.  Thank you
Lord that you led us to such an active neighborhood.  Please pray for the
team as we prepare to reach out and love on the lost, the hurt, the rejected
and everyone He places in our path.

Have a blessed week
Donna
